Sustainable Fisheries Management in East-Africa

Show notes

In this Episode we had a chat with George Rushingisha of the Tanzanian Fisheries Research Institute TAFIRI about fisheries data management in the region. What fascinates George about fisheries is the fact that it so tightly linked to human coastal societies and their well-being. And focusing on fisheries data helps ensuring that what we take out of the ocean is as close to being sustainable as possible. In the case of Tanzania the FIDEA project is complementing ministerial efforts to support data collection efforts, especially in the field of capacity development and data analysis. And one reason why large strides being made to improve fisheries data management is the very smooth integration of TAFIRI into the fisheries ministry. In the end, properly applied methods are likely to increase the quality of your data, and ultimately your decisions.
